Super Stock & Drag Illustrated Magazine was THE monthly publication for the Super Stock and Funny Car fan "back in the day". When it hit the shelves, we poured through it looking for some of that wonderfull "ink" - the stuff that kept the fans excited and the Track Promoters ringing our phones! Those bookings were what paid the bills back then, sponsors were few and far between. And, with minimal national TV exposure, most sponsorship was local or regional at best - not really big-budget. So, win the races, get the "ink" and get more races and higher appearance money for those races. If you find a copy of one of these Super Stock magazines from the late 60's at a swap meet, pick it up and peruse the pages. You'll find totally cool coverage of Match Races, individual racers, and those regional and local events that didn't find their way into Hot Rod Magazine - you'll see what the real Touring Pro Funny Car and Super Stock (and AA/Fuel Dragsters) really did to earn a living "back then". Over a five year period, from 1995 through 1999, the readers of Super Stock & Drag Illustrated Magazine and then Drag Racing Monthly magazine cast their votes every year in six different categories (seven total throughout the whole period). Each of those years, ten drivers and ten "others" were selected by vote to be inducted into the Super Stock & Drag Illustrated Magazine's Drag Racing Hall of Fame. The Induction Ceremonies that followed were a grand affair - a terrific evening for our families, and an opportunity for us to see friends, foes and competitors from our days on the Drag Strip. For some, it had been thirty years since we had seen each other! A nostalgia Drag Race followed the next day at a nearby Drag Strip with some very special Hot Rods, good racing and even Jon Lundberg doing the announcing duties. Special posters were also created.
